Potting:
- Container & Soil: Use a large pot with good drainage holes and fill it with well-draining, nutrient-rich soil. Cleome can grow quite tall, so a deeper container is best if planting in pots.
- Sowing: Sow cleome seeds directly outdoors after the last frost, pressing them lightly into the soil. They prefer starting outdoors, but you can also start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost.
Growing:
- Light: Cleome thrives in full sun and will grow best in a sunny location with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
- Temperature: Cleome prefers warm weather, with ideal growth temperatures between 65-85°F (18-29°C). It’s heat- and drought-tolerant once established.
Watering:
- Frequency: Water regularly during early growth to establish roots, but once mature, cleome is drought-tolerant and only needs watering when the soil is dry.
- Drainage: Ensure proper drainage to avoid root rot, as cleome doesn’t tolerate soggy soil.
